Who should not take semaglutide?
Semaglutide carries a serious warning about thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), based on animal studies. It is not known whether this risk applies to people.
Do not use semaglutide if you:
- Have a personal or family history of MTC or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- Have had an allergic reaction to semaglutide or any ingredient in the product.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding. Because semaglutide stays in the body about a week, women planning a pregnancy should stop it at least 2 months ahead and use contraception while taking it.
- Are under 18 years old.
